TULSA, OK -- A man has been arrested in the 1992 murder of a Tulsa woman, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
Dennis Ray Wright, Jr., 50, faces a first degree murder charge for the death of 22-year-old Georgette Pless.
Pless went missing on November 27, 1992. Lincoln County Deputies searching for victims of two unrelated murders found her body in a creek bed two days later. The medical examiner's office said she was strangled.
During the investigation, the OSBI learned Pless left her Tulsa apartment where to panhandle for money at the Walmart on South Mingo Road. The OSBI says she returned to the apartment shortly after to tell her family she had been hired to clean a man's home. She never returned home.
In 2009, CODIS, the national DNA database, matched the DNA recovered from Pless' body to Wright.
OSBI agents discovered Wright lived near the Tulsa Walmart where Pless was panhandling the day she disappeared. Agents also learned Wright worked a mile from the area where her body was discovered.
OSBI agents were able to track Wright down on February 3rd, 2010. He is an inmate in a Missouri Department of Corrections facility where he is serving time for fraud. The OSBI says he denies knowing Pless or having any relationship with her.
OSBI agents filed an arrest warrant for Wright for first degree murder.
The OSBI is trying to contact Pless' family about the arrest.
