TULSA, OK -- Crews began the demolition of a 7-story building at I-44 and Lewis Monday morning.

The structure's removal is part of the project to widen I-44 from Riverside Drive to Yale Avenue.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says demolition work is expected to take several weeks to complete.

ODOT says as of Monday, 320 parcels have been completely cleared for the I-44 widening project.

The overall widening project is estimated to cost $360 million.

It will widen I-44 from four lanes to six from Riverside to Yale and improve the intersections of Riverside Drive, Peoria, Lewis and Harvard Avenues.

Work is expected to be complete by early 2013.
