TULSA, OK -- Hilti North America will cut 64 employees from its Tulsa facility, the company announced on Thursday. The firm is "restructuring its corporate functions to align the work force size to current business requirements and to enable it to grow on a sustainable, profitable basis in a challenging economy."

Hilti said its sales have declined in the recession in the construction market that began in late 2007.

"With the construction market forecasted not to begin recovery until 2011, the company has decided to take proactive steps to reduce costs," the press release states.

The 64 affected employees in Tulsa have been offered severance packages including benefits and salary based on their years of service. They are also being offered help to find new jobs.

"It's never easy to lose good people who have given so much to the company, but these actions are necessary considering the realities of the economic environment we're facing and our need to ensure we have a foundation for sustainable future growth," said Cary Evert, president & CEO of Hilti's Western Hemisphere operations.
