TULSA, OK -- Children at Springdale Elementary School had a surprise in store when they attended a student-of-the-month assembly today. The Southside Rotary Club of Tulsa delivered tickets for third, fourth and fifth graders to enjoy a Tulsa Drillers game on May 5 in the team's brand-new stadium.
"The Southside Rotary has stepped up," said Springdale Elementary Principal Bradley Eddy.
"They've paid for - like I said - the transportation, they're paying for the tickets. They're even going to pay for them to have a meal while they're at the game - so they can enjoy a good day at the ballpark."
Hornsby, the team's mascot, handed out tickets to the excited students. Hornsby, according to a Drillers press release, makes about 125 public appearances each year including games. He visits hospitals, joins in parades and visits schools.
Southside Rotary is taking care of every aspect of trip-footing the bill for tickets, transportation and a meal at the stadium.
The club is connected to Springdale through the Partners in Education program.
