MAYES COUNTY -- A 28-year-old Spavinaw woman was killed just after noon Thursday when her car was hit head-on by another vehicle on State Highway 20 about three miles north of Salina.

Oklahoma troopers say Rebecca Guffey was pronounced dead at the scene from massive injuries.

Guffey's van was northbound when it was hit by a southbound Oldsmobile driven by Sandra Walling, 52, of Salina. According to an accident report, Walling's car left the roadway to the right, overcorrected then crossed the center lane striking the van.

Walling was transported by Life Flight air ambulance to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition with trunk and leg injuries.

The cause of the accident and Walling's condition at the time is under investigation, the trooper's report states. She was wearing a seat belt while Guffey was not.
