BROKEN ARROW, OK -- Broken Arrow Vice-Mayor and Haskell Middle School Principal Philip Tucker died Friday at home following a battle with cancer.
Tucker, a third-generation Broken Arrown, began his service to the city when he was elected as a councilor in April, 2007. He was named Vice-Mayor two years later.
"Phil loved Broken Arrow, and as a member of the City Council, worked tirelessly to see that Broken Arrow prospered, but also make sure that all citizens had a voice at City Hall," said Mayor Mike Lester.
"Phil's wisdom, as well as his humor, will be greatly missed, but never forgotten."
Tucker began his career at Broken Arrow Public Schools as a science teacher in 1984. His career advanced, and he began the Haskell Middle School principal in 1997, the position he held at his death.
"Philip Tucker was an outstanding teacher, administrator, leader, and friend who always worked to do what was best for his school, school district, and community," Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Gary Gerber said.
"He will be greatly missed by all of us who had the privilege to know him and benefit from his leadership, wisdom and humor. He impacted countless young people and made Broken Arrow a better place."
Tucker is survived by his wife Kathleen, daughters Stephanie and Megan and three grandchildren. He is also survived by his parents, Bob and Peggy Tucker of Broken Arrow, four sisters and a brother.
A Public Memorial Service will be held for him Tuesday, February 23 at 4:30 p.m. at the Broken Arrow Public Schools Performing Arts Center.
