OKLAHOMA CITY -- Love was in the air at the BOK Center Sunday. Couples were invited to spend their Valentine's Day on the ice there, and one bold skater even popped the question.
Plenty of couples took to the ice Sunday for the BOK Center's Skate Date event. Many showed up simply to spend Valentine's Day with their significant other, but Steve Wingfield had other ambitions.
Steve spent a month planning the proposal. He coordinated the event with the BOK Center, and made sure both his and her family were on hand.
"I kind of thought something was up, but not that," said Katie Callaghan.
Steve proposal went like this: "I can't see myself without you whatsoever. I love you. Will you marry me?" Katie's response was thankfully a very loud yes: "Yes! I love you so much."
Julie Stoddard, Steve's mother, said she was grateful things went off without a hitch. She was worried about people falling on the ice.
The NewsOn6.com can claim some credit for the union. The couple started corresponding after several arguments about local news issues in the NewsOn6.com chat room.
They quickly found their shared common interests, and after a memorable Valentine's Day skate, will share their lives together.
"She's great, she's absolutely fabulous. I love her to death. She takes care of me and I can't wait to spend the rest of our life with each other," Steve said.
Not only did the couple meet on the NewsOn6.com, they say their first real conversation was actually an argument about local news.
