TULSA, OK -- The ice storm of two years ago taught us many lessons, including what might come in handy when weather strikes again.
The News On 6 found a store featuring items which can help us walk safely, stay warm, even charge our cell phones when the weather turns icy and the power goes out.
The Gadget Company at 15th & Boston has stocked a few items that could make a big difference in a bad situation, things like Yak Trax.
"You can wear these over tennis shoes, hiking boots, dress shoes, pretty much any type shoes, except heels," said Amy Adkins, The Gadget Company. "Here is what you do, you stretch this out and the front where it says yak trax you put that over your toes."
There is a velcro strap that keeps 'em on your feet, they will give you traction on ice and snow, They come in different sizes.
"Hot hands, this is another great product basically your put it in your pocket your jacket or your jeans, you shake it to activate it and it will give you heat for up to ten hours," Adkins said.
This combo radio flash light, cell phone charger needs no batteries.
"You just crank it, cranking sound, the more you crank it the more power it has," said Adkins.
There is a USB port so you could charge an ipod or iphone and it has am/fm radio and weather radio too.
"The good thing is, all you gotta do is wind it again," Adkins said.
So I guess it never runs out of power.
A lady came in to pick up some stuff for herself and for her neighbor, another kind of crank light and radio.
There is some other stuff, a mylar blanket that could keep you warm in an emergency.
They have several kinds of flash lights. Some need batteries some have solar cells, sometimes a little gadget is all we need.
