TULSA---Dozens of Tulsa freshmen are learning life-saving skills as Citizen CPR and the Tulsa firefighters have been teaching basic CPR training at Booker T. Washington High School the past two days.
They're explaining how to recognize an emergency and what to do. Organizers hope to give this experience to all Tulsa freshmen by spring.
‘Our primary focus is to get more people in the community trained, get Tulsa to be a heart-safe community,' said Citizen CPR's Executive Director Leaha Kopp, ‘when you start training in CPR early it kind of becomes part of your culture, you reach the students early they start thinking instead of I haven't learned CPR yet, it's why haven't you learned CPR yet?'
Citizen CPR hopes this program will teach CPR to more than one thousand students by spring.
