TULSA, OK -- A Tulsa mom, Shemirah Benson was charged Wednesday with second degree manslaughter in connection with the November 5 death of her 7-month-old son.
The case was ruled a homicide by the State Medical Examiner's Office last week, and Tulsa Police count it as the 70th homicide of 2009.
As of Wednesday evening, she was not in custody.
Benson's husband found his wife asleep on the sofa, the infant between his mother and the back of the couch, according to Tulsa Police. The baby was not breathing and was pronounced dead at a Tulsa hospital.
The same thing had occurred in 2006 when Shemirah Benson's 3-month-old infant died, also after being found between Benson's body and the back of a couch.
