AFTON, OK -- The weather is still taking a toll on many parts of Oklahoma.
While most schools around Tulsa are back in session, that still isn't the case for many rural schools where conditions are worse.
In parts of Eastern Oklahoma, the highways are fine. The side streets and rural roads are another story.
At Bud Curd's home in Afton, four inches of snow cover the ground. Curd says enough is enough.
"I don't know what to say about it, I wish I was back in California," Curd said. "It's usually gone by now, but it's not going anywhere by the looks of it."
With temperatures in the teens and expected to get below zero, the snow just isn't melting.
Gib Drake, Afton Driver, said, "Snowy, Icy, at night it's real icy. You can't hardly drive on it, you slide around everywhere."
Steve Munson, Afton Resident, said, "Everybody with two wheel drives, can't hardly get around on the back roads."
Because the roads are still slick, about two dozen schools in Northeastern Oklahoma canceled classes for a second day
During the last round of winter weather, when Tulsa got just a dusting of snow this area got four inches, on top of the snow that already fell during the Christmas Eve blizzard.
That's combined to make a really dangerous and difficult drive on city streets."
Tom Bassett, Afton Resident, said, "This is a winter you'll remember, you know."
There are even more chances of snow are in the forecast.
"Somewhere underneath here is my snow shovel, I'm not going to dig for it, it will show up next year," Curd said.
He will keep thinking of warmer weather, and the day we get out of old man winters' icy grip.
"My granddaughter called from California and said she was cold it was 61 degrees there, laughing," Curd said.
Rural Road conditions are still dangerous.
Three brothers, the sons of a Mayes County deputy, were hurt Monday morning on their way to school after hitting an icy spot. Two are in critical condition.
