Wet Roads Greet Oklahoma Motorists Wednesday Morning

TULSA, OK -- Overnight snowfall doesn't appear to be much of a problem in the Tulsa area Wednesday morning.  But elsewhere across northeastern Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation is reporting slushy roads and ice on bridges and overpasses, and two more deaths have been attributed in part to icy conditions state wide.

In Claremore, utility crews are working to fix a problem at city electric substation.  An outage at downtown substation knocked out power for over an hour Wednesday morning. 

The outage impacted about 1,500 customers.  Crews rerouted electric service and restored power to the downtown area.

News On 6 meteorologist Alan Crone says a fast moving and weak trough is exiting northeast Oklahoma Wednesday after bringing an inch or two of fresh snow across the region. 

Crone says temperatures will remain in the upper 30s or lower 40s for daytime highs this afternoon as a south wind pushes slightly warmer air across Oklahoma.

ODOT says crews have been out overnight sanding bridges and overpasses as needed.  Motorists are asked to slow down as they drive Wednesday morning.

Authorities have attributed two more traffic deaths in Oklahoma in part to icy road conditions.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 54-year-old Michael Foltz of Burneyville died Tuesday when his van went off State Highway 32 in Love County and traveled 600 feet before hitting a tree. The accident happened about 6:40 p.m. about 11 miles east of Marietta.

Troopers say Foltz was traveling at an unsafe speed for ice or snow on the road.

In Blaine County, 17-year-old Anthony Alexander Pembrook of Longdale died early Wednesday after his pickup left a county gravel road and hit a tree, then a telephone pole. Troopers say Pembrook also was traveling at an unsafe speed for ice or snow on the road.
