TULSA, OK -- As another winter weather system to moves into the state, many Oklahomans are still feeling the effects of Thursday's snowfall.

Most of the major roads are plowed and in good condition but EMSA says side streets remain hazardous and with this snow and ice melting and re-freezing, just getting to your vehicle is also dangerous.

Mark Teruki not only walked on an icy, unplowed street Monday afternoon; he jogged on one.

"Some slips, no falls, so I'll take that," Mark Teruki said.

It's not a form of exercise recommended by EMSA, who says since Thursday's storm, "slip and fall" calls have jumped 70% from a normal four day period.

With another system moving in, that trend is expected to continue.

EMSA spokesperson Tina Wells said, "So it's going to be hazardous for a while. New Year's might not be that safe of a holiday either."

According to Wells, side streets and unpaved sidewalks remain the biggest threat to commuters and pedestrians.

While the sunshine and above-freezing temperatures helped Monday, it certainly did not get rid of all the snow and ice.

"Unfortunately we're not going to have that sun overnight. The wet roadways, they're going to refreeze most likely," Wells said.

Some progress was made, commuters who returned to work downtown did so on sidewalks that were, for the most part, shoveled.

The 40 degree weather also offered homeowners an opportunity to finally clear their driveways.

The News On 6 found Linda Power, Tulsa resident, shoveling her driveway today.

"It's hard. It's hard work for a 63 year old lady," said Linda Power.

Winter weather weary Tulsans will have to deal with these conditions for at least a few more days, and that's why Mark Teruki says he chose to take a risk and get outside and maybe take a few days off.

"Well, I've had a couple days off, so that was enough, getting cabin fever," Mark Teruki said.
