TULSA---Today Gentry Bowles and her mother Kaye Webb gave out backpacks, bags and blankets to Tulsa's homeless. Kaye started Red Gloves with Love last year, and gave gifts at Iron Gate, the shelter at Trinity Episcopal Church when they noticed the quickest items to go were the blankets.
‘Last year we were here and handed out gifts to the homeless here at the Iron Gate,' said Gentry, ‘and noticed that a lot of them were carrying tattered and torn things, and we thought this year we're going to bring up some new bags for these folks so that they can have something to carry around, and some of our gifts last year included blankets and those were the most popular gift so we thought we're going to focus on getting everyone a blanket this year.'
With the help of friends and members of the Broken Arrow Assembly of God Church, Gentry and Kaye purchases and distributed almost 150 backpacks.
‘It means a lot to a lot of us especially at Christmas,' said Mitch Carr who was on the street last night, ‘it's kind of hard being homeless, it's kind of depressing, but they're the kind of people that give us hope.'
