TULSA, OK -- There were more signs of a struggling economy as the city of Tulsa released its latest sales tax report. Collections are down $2.6 million, a 14.5% drop from the same month last year. The collections are 4.9% below budget estimate for the month.
This is the ninth straight month that sales tax collections declined, something the city says is unprecedented in Tulsa's history. New Mayor Dewey Bartlett is working with the finance department to develop a plan of action.
City use taxes, which businesses and others pay on purchases of equipment from out-of-state vendors, is down 23.8% from the same month last year, from $1,530,711 to $1,166,220.
Use tax collections are 15.2% below the budget estimate.
