Police Release ID Of Victim In Tulsa's Latest Homicide

TULSA, OK – Officers with the Tulsa Police Department say Thursday afternoon's homicide Wednesday is connected to a drug deal.

Police officers responded to a shooting at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 1800 block of North Delaware Place. When they arrived, they say 31-year-old Jerron Peters was found lying in the middle of the street.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tulsa Police say Peters drove a red truck, and didn't live at the address where he was found. They believe he was in the area either buying or selling marijuana because bundles of marijuana surrounded his body.

"We don't know if there is any more in the car or what, but there is a significant amount of marijuana on the ground around the victim," said Cpl. Darin Filak, Tulsa Police.

Police officers went to neighbors to ask for information, but say it didn't appear anyone saw the shooting.

"As far as we can tell, it appears to be a drug deal gone bad," said Cpl. Darin Filak.

Witnesses in the neighborhood told Tulsa Police, a black Chevrolet Malibu 4-door, 2003-2009 model was seen fleeing the scene northbound just after the shooting.

Suspects were described as two males, wearing dark clothing.

This is the city's 65th homicide of the year.
