TULSA, OK -- A Tulsa Boy Scout troop labored for more than a year to repair a damaged home for their scout master.
Scout Master Bill Shaffer has been with Troop 26 for 40 years and in celebration of all his time and commitment, his troop got together and fixed up his old childhood home.
Shaffer inherited the home after his mother passed away, but a major leak in the ceiling damaged the house beyond his repair. That's when his scouts decided to pitch in and do a complete remodel.
On Saturday, Shaffer saw the home for the first time since the scouts began work.
"The amazing thing is now there's an emotional attachment to the house again that wasn't there when the ceiling fell in. I thought it was just going to be property that I could just dispose of or rent or whatever, and now there have been so many working hands that have gone into the walls and the whole thing," said Bill Shaffer, Scout Master.
It took more than a year to complete the work, and Shaffer says he loves the new look.
