LAWTON, Okla. (AP) -- A 13-year-old Lawton girl is recovering after being struck by a police car on her way to school.
Deputy Police Chief James Apple says the girl was walking to Tomlinson Middle School about 7 a.m. Thursday when she tried to avoid a mud puddle and stepped into the path of the patrol car driven by officer Keith May.
Apple says the front driver's side corner of the car hit the girl, who was treated for minor injuries and released from a local hospital. Apple says the officer wasn't speeding and is not suspected of any wrongdoing.
