TULSA, OK -- Tulsa police say a woman is claiming self-defense in a domestic dispute that ended in death shortly before 12:30 a.m. Saturday at the Pythian Apartment complex.

Dead is Robert Matthews, 44, of Tulsa. He was stabbed once in the chest with a steak knife, according to Corporal Phil Snow of the Tulsa Police Department.

Melissa Livingston, 46, was taken to the TPD's detective division where she was booked on a complaint of first degree murder.

"This is a domestic violence incident where the girlfriend in the relationship admitted to officers when they arrived that she'd stabbed her boyfriend," said Captain Travis Yates of the Tulsa Police Department.

"She is claiming that she was in an abusive relationship at this time."

She told officers that she and Matthews were arguing, and she went into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and stabbed him in the chest. She also told police that she was sorry and tired of Matthews "beating on me," according to the arrest report.

The Pythian Apartment complex is located at 6568 E. 21st St.
