Tulsa Television's 'Uncle Zeb' Passes Away

TULSA, OK -- An icon in Tulsa's television community has died.  Carl Bartholomew, who played Uncle Zeb, passed away early Tuesday morning at the age of 78.

Bartholomew started as a cameraman at KTUL in 1967 and then hosted "Uncle Zeb's Cartoon Camp" from 1969 until he retired in 1979. 

His show continued on Tulsa cable only from 1991 to 1998. 

KTUL's director of Broadcast Operations, Roger Herring, issued the following statement on Bartholomew's death: 

"Carl Bartholomew's KTUL family will sincerely miss him.  We lift up our thoughts and prayers to his family.  Carl was an integral part of KTUL during the years when he created the greatest promotional campaigns for this station.  Carl as Uncle Zeb will continue to live on in our hearts and in the hearts of countless viewers throughout Green Country.  We will remember him always and will be grateful for all of the wonderful memories."

In the early 90s, then-News On 6 anchor Beth Rengel talked with Carl Bartholomew about his career and his role as Uncle Zeb.

He told her he and the managers at KTUL thought the show would last about six months.
