TULSA, OK (AP) -- The former chief investigator in the state Medical Examiner's office has pleaded not guilty to sexual battery charges during his arraignment in Tulsa County District Court.

Kevin Rowland entered the plea Monday morning and a judge scheduled an October 12 preliminary hearing. A multicounty grand jury indicted him last month on four counts of sexual battery in Tulsa County and one count of sexual battery in Oklahoma County.
He has a hearing in Oklahoma County District Court set for October 1.
Rowland remains free on bail. His attorney, Scott Adams, has said the charges are politically motivated.
Rowland resigned from the Medical Examiner's office in March after sexual harassment accusations surfaced against him. In his letter of resignation, he cited job stress.
