OWASSO, OK -- A woman died Friday in a fire at an Owasso home.

Tulsa County Capt. Bill Bass said a man came home to find his residence in the 10300 block of 129th East Avenue filled with smoke.

By the time firefighters arrived at the home, it was too late. Tragedy had already struck.

The man's wife, identified as 48-year-old Elise Garrett, was found dead in a bedroom where the mattress had caught fire. Investigators say she was likely sleeping and died from smoke inhalation.

"So far there's nothing that makes us think that there's anything out of the ordinary," Bass said.

Bass says there was evidence someone had been smoking in the house.

Investigators say the couple has no family in the Tulsa area, but Garrett had a son out of state.
