State Agency Awards Stimulus Road Projects

The Oklahoma Transportation Commission has awarded $228 million in road and bridge projects funded by federal stimulus funds.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma Transportation Commission has awarded $228 million in road and bridge projects funded by federal stimulus funds.

The projects are among $330 million in construction work awarded by the agency Monday. The total includes 40 road and bridge projects paid for by federal stimulus funds.

The state received a total of $464 million in stimulus funds for highway construction projects. Transportation Director Gary Ridley says another $100 million in projects will be awarded in April and about $50 million more in May.

The projects are part of the state's eight-year road construction program. Ridley says they include road and bridge repair work along many of the state's most traveled roadways, including interstates 35, 40 and 44 as well as U.S. highways 62 and 69.
