TAHLEQUAH, OK -- Northeastern State University celebrated its 100th birthday Friday.
The Oklahoma legislature purchased NSU from the Cherokee Nation Female Seminary a century ago.
To celebrate, the school dedicated a bronze statue of Sequoyah, the creator of the Cherokee alphabet. The statue is a part of the new Centennial Plaza, which was also dedicated at the ceremony.
