UNDATED -- Saving the environment is even more rewarding when you can save some money in the process.

There is now a device that can render your electronics powerless and it's a good thing.

It is called a Smart Strip. The Smart Strip is a power strip that automatically turns off and on computers, TV's and peripherals when they are not being used.

Officials say the power you use when you're not using your devices is called "phantom power." And the US Department of Energy estimates that "phantom power" accounts for about $100 million in wasted energy each year in America.
