Tulsa Police Recover $30,000 In Stolen Property

TULSA, OK -- Tulsa burglary detectives recovered about $30,000 in stolen property Wednesday after serving a search warrant at a mini-storage unit.

Two victims reclaimed some of their things, but much is still missing.

Burglary detectives said the loot came from two home burglaries and one trailer theft.

A man's house was hit New Year's Eve when he left home for an hour. The victim said the thieves took almost everything.

He got back his rifles, violin, metal detector and tools, but is still missing his TV, surround-sound system and other electronics.

Another victim is a retired Tulsa police officer. Ron Herwig was hoping to get back his stolen OU tailgating trailer, but detectives found only a cover for an OU chair with his name on it.

"You go out, work 31 years and do the investigating part of it," Herwig said. "Now all of a sudden, you become a victim, and it really hits home, you know."

The trailer theft was caught on tape. It was hauled off by a teal and silver pickup truck.

Herwig is glad detectives have someone to tie the theft to and hopes to get the trailer back.

Police said Clayton Lambert, who is in jail on other charges, will now face charges for this stolen property as well.

Officers said they take pride in returning stolen property to victims.

"Especially with the economy the way it is, tools, equipment that people use for their livelihoods, really does, when these thieves take stuff, it really affects their lives and putting them in a position where they may not be able to recover," Cpl. David Smasl said.

Thieves should be on notice that no hiding spot is too concealed for detectives to find.
