Oklahoma Fire Departments Get Grants

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency said $455,491 from the Assistance to Firefighters Grants program will go to fire departments and organizations in Oklahoma.

According to FEMA officials, Manitou Volunteer Fire Department received $118,750 for a vehicle acquisition, the largest single amount of the award.

The rest of the awards for operations and safety went to the Wapanucka Volunteer Fire Department, $77,995; $68,286 went to the Prague Volunteer Fire Department; $53,675 went to the Nelson Volunteer Fire Department in Soper; $53,123 for the Pawnee Nation Fire and Rescue in Pawnee; $45,600 for the No. 9 Area Volunteer Fire Department in Eufaula; $19,855 for the Commerce Fire Department and the Union City Fire Department received $18,207.

Nationally, the fiscal year 2008 AFG awards will provide about $500 million to fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations throughout the country.
