MUSKOGEE, OK -- A search for the best soul food around brought nearly three dozen cooks to the Muskogee Civic Center on Saturday.
The CW 12-19 sponsored the 4th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Soul Food Cook-Off.
In the end, Okmulgee's Linda Goff savored the biggest win -- the meat category. Her gumbo earned her $1,000.
But organizers say it's not all about the money.
"A lot of fellowship, a lot of unity and that's ... what it's all about, bringing out the unknown cooks that can throw down in the kitchen," said Cassandra Gaines, Civic Center manager.
Any money left over from this year's event will go toward making next year's event even bigger and better.
