TULSA, OK - A Tulsa pipeline company will pay $3.3 million in penalties for violating the U.S. Clean Water Act.

The Explorer Pipeline Company spilled more than 275,000 gallons of jet fuel from a pipeline near Huntsville, Texas back in July 2007.

Texas authorities say that jet fuel spilled into a nearby creek. That creek flows into the Trinity River and into Lake Livingston.

The Clean Water Act makes it illegal to spill hazardous substances into navigable waters in the U.S.

The penalty paid for this spill will go to help pay for the clean-up of future threats to the environment.
