MUSKOGEE, OK -- Muskogee County is under a burn ban and it could stay that way for several weeks.
The threat of grass fires like one in Kellyville back in November remains very high. Muskogee firefighters say they've fought more than 60 similar fires in the past 18-days.
Burn bans used to be issued by the governor, but now, county commissioners are responsible for issuing them. The bans stay in effect for a week and then have to be renewed.
Pittsburg County just extended a county-wide burn ban through January 12th.
