BUCKLEY, Wash. (AP) - Authorities say a hiker has died after she was hit by an ice slide near Washington state's Crystal Mountain.
Pierce County sheriff's Deputy Dan Hudson says the 24-year-old woman and a 26-year-old male friend had just completed a climb Wednesday at frozen Snoquera Falls when an ice slide hit. Hudson says the man was knocked unconscious and awoke to find the woman had been struck by large chunks of ice and was not breathing. He tried CPR but was unable to revive her.
The man suffered a serious head injury. He reportedly lost his truck keys in the fall and had to hike out for help, eventually finding a utility crew along State Route 410.
The accident occurred about 15 miles from the Crystal Mountain ski area.
