Layoffs Hit Businesses In The Tulsa Area

Two companies in Tulsa and Sand Springs could be facing a reduction in their workforce because of current economic conditions.

UNDATED -- A Tulsa company that makes windshields for the Ford Motor Company won't comment about possible layoffs, but the News On 6 has confirmed, Zeledyne has shut down one of its glass furnaces.

A spokesperson says the glass plant will run at half capacity until the auto industry recovers.

In Sand Springs, a steel company is laying off workers.

A union vice president tells the News On 6, about 150 union workers at Gerdau Ameristeel will lose their jobs at Christmas.

More than 300 union workers are employed at the former Sheffield Steel plant.

A plant manager confirmed there will be layoffs but couldn't be specific about how many people will be affected.
