NATIONAL WEATHER SUMMARY:
A low pressure system located in the Great Lakes brought rain and snow showers to the eastern half of the country. Snowfall was heavy in areas near the Great Lakes, with 7.40 inches in Saint Helen, MI; 6 inches in Harrison, MI and Cyclone, PA; and 5.0 inches in Stokes Hill, NY. Further south, a cold front produced showers and thunderstorms over the Deep South and Southeast. The heaviest rainfall amounts were reported in the Lower Mississippi Valley where around an inch fell. Higher amounts to 1.50 inches occurred in Arkansas. Another area of snow showers developed in the western Great Lakes with an unrelated system. Up to 4 inches of snow fell in Ripon, WI.
Mostly quiet weather was observed over the western United States yesterday as high pressure dominated the region. Quillayute, WA set a new record high temperature at 56 degrees. Further south, windy conditions developed over areas of southern California. Near Frasier Park, CA, a wind gust of 50 mph was measured with 56 mph in Grapevine, CA.

ON THIS DATE IN HISTORY:
In 1918, a windstorm in southern California caused winds to gust to 96 mph at Mt Wilson.
In 1950, the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry game was played at Columbus, OH in a heavy snowstorm. By that evening, 9 inches of snow was on the ground. The poor field conditions lead to 45 punts in the game.
In 1993, the Thanksgiving Day game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Miami Dolphins occurred during a sleet storm. Heavy sleet during the game covered the field and led to slick playing conditions. Miami won on a last second field goal.
