BROKEN ARROW, OK -- "I was looking for contests to do for me and my son. It's kind of a bonding thing we do together," said Rachael Cabrales of Broken Arrow.
That's when Rachael Cabrales found the Mermaid Jingle Jam, an online contest sponsored by Chicken of the Sea. While some of the entries were excellent, others were not so great. Rachael saw her opportunity.
"I thought, ‘well we could do that.' I wrote the jingle; it's a jingle contest. So I wrote the jingle and had my son sing it. We had fun," said Cabrales.
At only four-years-old, Rachael's son, Richie, is quite a performer.
"I just put him in front of the shower curtain and we used that for a backdrop," said Rachael.
The two admit they wanted to win a trip to Universal Studios in California, but really wanted to win for another reason. The winner also gets a trailer of seafood to donate to a local charity.
"It would be wonderful to win for the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, which is here in Tulsa, to win $100,000 worth of seafood products from Chicken of the Sea," said Rachael.
The people at the food bank agree.
"This year we have to purchase food because our donations are so low. We're pulling for Rachael because she is pulling for us and for all the hungry folks who are in our service area. This means not just a local girl winning a jingle contest, but it's the fact that we are going to be able to feed people who are in need right now," said Sara Waggoner, Executive Director Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.
