PICHER, OK -- Residents of Picher are taking steps to rebuild the city government after tornadoes forced many residents to move elsewhere.
The community will vote on a proposition next Tuesday to change the way the city is run.
Picher currently has a city council form of government. Some residents want to change to a town-trustee form of government. Officials say that would allow council vacancies to be addressed more easily.
Residents have been offered federal buyouts because it's in a Superfund cleanup site and a tornado demolished much of the city earlier this year.
Picher's population is down to about 800 people.
