TULSA, OK -- A congregation in danger of losing its church decides its future. Kirk of the Hills split from Presbyterian Church USA two years ago. Since then, a legal battle ensued and last month a judge determined that the Kirk of the Hills' property belongs to the Presbyterian Church USA. The Kirk of the Hills congregation will get the building back, but it will come at a price.
It was a close vote on Sunday night. After running out of legal options, the congregation voted on a proposal to buy the property from Presbyterian Church USA for $1.75 million.
The battle began in 2006 when the congregation voted to leave Presbyterian Church USA, saying the denomination had departed from its historical beliefs. Among other things, Kirk of the Hills was upset about the possible ordination of homosexuals.
Kirk of the Hills is located near 61st and Harvard.
