ROSE, OK -- The Cherokee Nation broke ground on Thursday on a restoration project on one of the Tribe's most treasured sites.
The Saline Courthouse in Mayes County is the only one of the nine original Cherokee courthouses that's still standing. The tribe will spend $200,000 to preserve the site.
They'll begin by reconstructing a spring-house that sat on the property, and then work will be done on the courthouse.
The site is on Preservation Oklahoma's list of the state's most endangered places.
