PRESIDIO, Texas (AP) - Residents in a small West Texas town are watching the Rio Grande, which continues to rise after a series of heavy storms in northern Mexico.
The mayor of Presidio says the river could top his town's levee at any time.
Hundreds have been told to evacuate and dozens spent the night in a shelter at a school.
The onslaught of storms unrelated to Hurricane Ike forced Mexican officials to release water from a reservoir into a river that flows into the Rio Grande not far from Presidio.
Things are tense but the mayor says "they could be worse." He's been told that on the other side of the river in Mexico, some homes and other buildings have water up to the roofs.
