NATIONAL WEATHER SUMMARY:

In the East, the persistent remnants of Tropical Storm Fay provided showers and thunderstorms to the Lower Great Lakes, the Mid-Atlantic, and the Carolinas. Locally heavy rainfall totals occurred yet again with this system, along with isolated tornadoes. A possible tornado destroyed an outbuilding and blew shingles off of a roof near Randleman, North Carolina. A tornado touched down near Rose Hill, North Carolina, cutting power to a large portion of the area. Flash flooding was an issue across the region. Water piled up on roads, causing road closures in the region. Flooding caused the evacuation of an apartment complex in Greensboro, North Carolina. Meanwhile, isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms occurred across the Gulf Coast and Florida. No strong storms occurred with this activity. Another day with sunshine and comfortable temperatures was enjoyed in the Northeast.

In the central United States, scattered showers and thunderstorms developed across portions of the northern Plains and the Upper Midwest during the late afternoon through the evening. A few of these storms became strong to severe. Quarter sized hail fell near Worthing, South Dakota. This provided some much needed rainfall across portions of the region. Meanwhile, scattered showers and thunderstorms developed across mainly western and southern Texas during the afternoon. No strong storms were reported. Locally heavy downpours occurred, though. These storms diminished quickly in the evening. Dry conditions were common across the central Plains and central Mississippi Valley.

In the West, scattered showers and thunderstorms were common across Arizona and New Mexico. Locally heavy rainfall was the main impact with isolated areas of flash flooding in the lower desert terrain. An isolated thunderstorm did produce strong wind gusts. Gusty winds blew down three utility poles in St. David, Arizona. Further north, widely scattered showers and windy conditions occurred across the northern Rockies. Rainfall amounts were not significant. Winds gusted to 40-50 miles per hour through the day across a large portion of the region. Offshore winds brought unseasonably warm temperatures to portions of northern California. Temperatures climbed into the 90s and 100s. Elsewhere, dry and mild temperatures were found across the Great Basin, the Pacific Northwest, and the central Rockies.
