One of the top employers in the state has announced it's putting a freeze on all job openings.
University of Oklahoma President David Boren says the decision comes after looking at the economic trend nationwide.
Boren released a statement on Monday saying "with the economic uncertainty and likely shortage of funds available, it's prudent to me to take action now."
State Senator Clarke Jolley says it is a wise decision by Boren.
"Always if you can take a look at your revenues and make sure you're not going to over spend potential revenues you might be getting. That's the smarter way to go," said Clarke Jolley.
David Boren says the hiring freeze is just a preventative measure, in case Oklahoma finds itself in the same financial crisis as some of the other states.
There will be exceptions to the freeze though, such as safety and positions essential to education.
