Brown stains started showing up on the shiny exterior of the BOK Center. With just a few weeks left to go on the construction job, News On 6's Emory Bryan explains what's happening.
It's something our viewers have called and emailed about. The builder says it's not unexpected and certainly not permanent.
For a lot of Tulsans, the BOK Center is now so familiar it doesn't get a second glance. But, two tourists took it all in. They're on a walking tour of Tulsa's architecture and came to see the BOK Center.
One tourist says the building's architecture is more modern than the rest of the city, which is classic.
After we pointed it out, they also noticed something many Channel 6 viewers have seen, stains running down the sides of the brand new building.
It's obvious to some, but others haven't even noticed. Some of the stains are just below joints in the windows and there is one underneath the sign.
After the last rain, the brown streaks started appearing on the stainless steel shingles.
"So, all the construction dirt that got into the building, it got into the joints. And when it rains, it just streaks down the side of the building," said Bob Eggleston with Tulsa Vision Builders.
The stains are mainly dirt, according to Eggleston, who says they'll come off with a good cleaning.
"The actual shingle is a very low maintenance thing. Probably needs to be hosed down a couple of times a year," said Eggleston.
The cleaning is just another of the finishing touches for the building that opens to the public August 30th.
Landscapers are planting ground cover and trees, putting down mulch and cleaning the outside.
Inside, workers are three weeks into a top to bottom hand cleaning of every surface.
When that's done, the windows will be cleaned and the shingles will be pressure washed to clean off those stains.
The exterior cleaning job starts in a week and is scheduled to last two weeks.
