ODOT is busy bridging gaps on our roadways. Crews are working on several bridges around Green Country. The News On 6's Dan Bewley reports ODOT says there are 1,600 bridges in need of repair across the state.
Right now, two bridges on the way to downtown Tulsa are getting the focus of work crews.
Both are on the Broken Arrow Expressway at Lewis Avenue, as well as Utica. ODOT says it's where the highway goes over the railroad tracks. The concern is about the decking of the bridges.
ODOT says it's very rough and could cause problems for commuters. Both are in ODOT's eight year plan for re-decking, but because of the bridges condition ODOT has decided to go ahead and take care of them now.
The plan is to work when there is the least amount of traffic.
"We're going to have to restrict lane uses. We try to do that during off-peak hours. We have lane rental provisions in there. We certainly encourage the contractor to work at night as well when the traffic is less," said ODOT Engineer Randle White.
The contract includes an incentive if the work gets done ahead of schedule.
