There's a new way for citizens to send anonymous crime tips to police. The Crime Commission and The Tulsa Police Department introduced the new Text A Tip during a news conference Tuesday afternoon.
The new program will allow citizens to send an anonymous text message detailing information about a crime that has occurred or is about to occur.
Officials say this is another option which will allow police to be more efficient when dealing with tips.
"We definitely see that it's going to have its benefits. When talking to other departments around the country, we determined that everybody that started the text messaging program immediately saw an increase in tips that they received. And obviously that's a benefit for all," said Officer Jason Willingham with the Tulsa Police Department.
Text A Tip kicked off on Monday. If you would like to text a crime tip, text "Tip918," then type your message. Then send the text to "CRIMES" or "274637."
You can always call in a tip to Crime Stoppers at 596-COPS.
