Gas prices continue to go up and that has people turning to the internet to find the places that sell gas for the best price. NewsOn6.com anchor Margaret Stokes and Videojournalist Chris Howell report the problem is many websites use different methods of calculating so it doesn't always add up.
As families prepare for summertime road trips, figuring in fuel costs is a big part of the plan.
Turning to the internet to calculate fuel costs can help, but we've noticed what you find on the web is often different than what you see at the pump.
So why is that?
AAA is one of the best resources when you're looking for an average fuel cost in a city. Their website is updated each business day and is calculated by surveying more than 100,000 self-serve stations.
The calculations include seven counties in the Green Country area, so the price you read will most likely not be the exact price you pay. What you pay in the Tulsa Metro area is often less.
Another popular website is TulsaGasPrices.com. This website does not report an average. It relies on the public to volunteer what prices they see around town.
Ginger Wood uses the feature every time she travels to see family in St. Louis.
"I will check in those cities where I stop to look for the cheaper gas prices. Or sometimes they will tell you by mile marker where to stop. You just get off and get gas," said Wood.
