The driver of a car involved in an overnight traffic accident on I-44 was thrown approximately 181 feet. That driver and the driver of a semi that struck her vehicle were both taken to Tulsa hospitals.
The accident happened just after 2 a.m. Wednesday on I-44 near 193rd East Avenue.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a car traveling westbound on the interstate was disabled in the roadway after hitting a guardrail. Troopers say that is when a semi truck, also westbound, hit the car. The impact sent the semi off the road and through a guardrail.
The driver of the car, 41-year old Stacy Collins of Catoosa, was ejected. She was flown by medical helicopter to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the semi, Billy Collins, 41, of Westville, Oklahoma was also taken to a Tulsa hospital and is listed in serious condition.
Eastbound and westbound lanes of I-44 and traffic on 193rd East Avenue were shut down for a short time.
Editor's note: The names of both drivers were provided to the News On 6 by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. We are not aware of any relation between them.
