If you haven't bought fireworks yet, one local youth basketball team hopes you'll give their stand a shot. The Save Our Youth Foundation is trying to raise money for a basketball championship tournament, but some road construction may be blocking business.

News On 6 anchor Latoya Silmon reports their dream trip has a detour.

For the group of kids Big Blast Fireworks is a way to make a dream come true.

"We're trying to go to Las Vegas, Nevada for a basketball tournament," said Razhon Hines.

"We been working hard at this and we've been coming here all day and standing out in the hot sun. We've been trying to go and we've been at practice working hard," said Robert Ellis Jr.

They say a roadblock may derail those dreams and even though a sign has gone up they say the business just isn't coming in.

"We've had three customers in one day.  We're down 75% in our sales in fireworks to get these kids to where their supposed to be going and it's all because of our detour," said Sherry Barbour.

In the 30 years the stand has been there, about a quarter of a mile west of North Pine and Yale, Sherry Barbour says business has never been this slow. She says they've only raised about a thousand dollars so far and they still need thousands more, but time is running out.

"All we want is for people to know that we're here," said Barbour. "If they buy fireworks for the 4th of July look for big blast, support these kids."

One dad's sure you're investment will pay off.

"You'll hear about somebody one day, know what I mean.  We got a lot of stars on here so, hopefully one day you'll see somebody on Sunday," said Robert Ellis Sr.

The boy's parents say they've also tried other fundraisers like selling candy bars, but the stand was suppose to bring in the most money. The tournament is in two weeks.
