Lots of people are getting fired up for the 4th of July. Firework stands bank on it every year and this year more cities are permitting the holiday fun within city limits. News On 6 anchor Latoya Silmon reports TNT is booming with business.
"I got festival balls, uh, some ground blasters and red devils," said Bobby Priem.
And, just about every customer has a favorite firecracker for the 4th.
"Artillery shells that go up in the air and explode big time and we got M1000's to blow stuff up. A lot of colorful stuff for the baby," said Jarryd Medlin.
"It's just about celebrating family and celebrating your country," said Carol Priem.
Patriotism and the thrill of it all aren't the only things lighting a fuse in business these days.
It's now legal to pop party favors in more Green Country cities than last year. Sand Springs, Sapulpa, Claremore, Broken Arrow and Bixby are all allowing fireworks this year with a permit.
Fireworks stand owner Maggie Guynes says the change adds up to about a 10% increase in her bottom line.
"We think it's really helped out here. We're waiting on Tulsa to allow one there, too," said Guynes.
Right now, Tulsa has to rely on the professionals; going at it alone could cost you a $220 fine. But people are going elsewhere because they say it's just something about getting in on the action yourself.
"They can get the permit now, be nice and legal," said Carol Priem.
Permits cost between 20 to 25 dollars depending on the city. You must be 18 to get one.
