WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- Winds gusting to 100 miles per hour, heavy rain and frequent lightning strikes make for a scary night in parts of Kansas.
The National Weather Service said at least two 18-wheelers were blown over early Friday, one by a 100 mph gust west of Hutchinson and another on U.S. 54 near Goddard. Reports of winds in the 60-mile-per-hour range were not uncommon in Sedgwick other counties in Kansas.
The weather service said 1.5 inches of rain fell in Lake Afton, while Valley Center was hit by pea-sized hail in 70 mph winds.
Forecasters expect more showers and thunderstorms in the Wichita area and other parts of Kansas during the day and evening Friday.
