It's not every day you're invited to attend a chimpanzee birthday party. Bernsen, the newest primate at the Tulsa Zoo, turned one on Tuesday. There was definitely a party going on. It was excitement the whole park could hear!
Bernsen is the second addition to the chimpanzee troop following the birth of his older sister, Vindi.
It was a special afternoon for the primates, as they ate cupcakes fit for chimps. They even had carrot candles for that special touch.
Guests were delighted as they watched the troop take part in enrichment activities that the chimpanzees just love.
According to the Primate Zookeeper, Bernsen is quite the entertainer. Mo O'Leary says having both Bernsen and Vindi around the troop helps bring the energy level up.
"It's such an integral part of their social dynamics to have a youngster for the adults to interact with. There's so much activity in the group now," said Mo O'Leary, Primate Zookeeper
