Police busted a school employee for selling drugs out the back door of an elementary school on Wednesday. Sapulpa officers arrested a school janitor in an undercover sting after buying 110 prescription pain killers from him.

News On 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright reports it was a crime that appalled and outraged police and school leaders alike.

Jorge Diaz is in jail on $100,000 bond and has been ordered to surrender both his U.S. and Colombian passports.

Sapulpa police say they caught the 41-year-old Diaz red-handed selling hydrocodone outside Freedom Elementary.

They say after their undercover officer paid him $880 and he handed over 110 pills, they nabbed him.

"One of our major goals was after the business was conducted, he was not going to set food back in that school and he didn't quite make it to the doorway," said Sapulpa Police Major Jeff Gilliland.

Sapulpa police say their number one growing drug problem right now is prescription drugs, especially the highly addictive hydrocodone.

They say the need for the pills takes over their lives and they'll steal, lie, whatever it takes to get more of them.

They are outraged those types of people were being brought into such close contact with innocent children.

"It's appalling to me someone has the audacity to come to the sanctuary of our children, where they're receiving an education. It's one thing to sell drugs on the street corner, but, to have the audacity to do it where children are trying to have a safe environment for education, that really upsets me," said Major Gilliland.

The original information about Diaz came from the Creek County DA's office and they believe the drug dealing on school grounds has gone on for some time.

School leaders were also appalled and cooperated with the sting, they say Diaz worked as a janitor at the school for several years, but resigned after his arrest.

Luckily it was field day for the kids; they were outside, playing end of the school year games and having so much fun, they never even knew the drug bust was taking place.

Police say no other school employees or students were involved.
